Before you send case material: please do not include privileged, confidential, or identifying case information in an initial message until a conflict check has been completed. PD&A runs the conflict check. A short description of the legal question, the jurisdiction, and the posture of the matter is enough to begin.
First message
What to have ready.
These are the details PD&A will ask for when you contact them about a forensic matter. For an engagement with an imminent deadline, call rather than write.
An initial message does not need to be long. The items below are usually enough to determine fit, run a conflict check, and confirm whether the timeline is workable.
Court and venue, and where any examinee is located. This determines which licensure applies.
Stage of the matter, which side you represent, and whether other experts are already retained.
Expert disclosure deadlines, discovery cutoff, or trial date if one is set.
Names of the parties and firms involved, so a conflict check can be completed before anything substantive is discussed.
For a speaking inquiry, send the audience, the format, the date under consideration, and the topic you have in mind.
Contacting Dr. Jones or Park Dietz & Associates does not create an expert-client relationship, does not retain him, and does not establish any confidential or privileged relationship. Correspondence should be treated as unprotected until a formal engagement is in place. Dr. Jones does not accept forensic referrals from individuals who are represented by counsel except through that counsel, and does not provide clinical treatment to forensic examinees.
